______________________The Role of the Governing Body_____________________
The governing body's main aim is to help raise standards of achievement and make sure the school provides a good quality education. The day-to-day management of the school is the responsibility of the Headteacher and staff. Rather than manage, governors are there to help shape the school's future direction and focus.
Specific duties of the Governing Body include: appointing the Head Teacher; setting the school budget; ensuring that a broad and balanced curriculum is delivered; monitoring how well the school is doing, and how well policies and plans are being implemented; monitoring health and safety, and the management of the school building and grounds.
Mayfield’s full Governing Body meets a minimum of three times a year. Each governor is also a member of at least one of the two committees: Resources or Standards, Teaching and Learning. The Resources Committee is responsible for the school’s budget, health and safety, premises and personnel. The Standards, Teaching and Learning Committee oversees teaching and learning in the school, Foundation issues, inclusion and communications.
