Early Years Foundation Stage

The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum is followed by Robin's class. To see what the Robins have been learning about take a look at the class pages.

The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum supports children's development from birth to 5. It is followed in nursery and pre-school settings which enables a smooth transition between settings when children enter school.

The curriculum is centred around the individual child. Our aim is to get to know each child as an individual and to then tailor the learning experiences to their needs. We do this through a cycle of observation, assessment and planning, continually developing our planning based on what we've assessed from observing the children's learning.

Teaching in Early Years isn't formal, we appreciate that all children are different and we provide a range of experiences to enable children to access learning in the way that best suits their individual learning needs and learning styles. Children learn through hands on exploration, playing with ideas and developing their own in depth understanding across both indoor and outdoor learning environments.

Our curriculum is divided into 7 areas, 3 Prime and 4 specific.

In addition to our areas of learning we also focus on the Characteristics of Effective Learning. These are the life skills of learning that help children to progress, encouraging skills such as perseverance, critical thinking and self-reflection, these skills permeate learning across all curriculum areas.
