Mayfield CE Primary Vision

At Mayfield CofE Primary School, our aims are guided by our Christian values.  This means that children are at the centre of everything we do.  We work in close partnership with parents, carers and the wider community to make sure that our children respect themselves, others and the world in which they live.  We want our school to be an inspiring, safe, caring and fun environment where everbody matters: children are happy to learn, challenge themselves and do their very best.  Through excellent teaching and care, we will support and prepare our children so that they achieve their potential and are ready for their future lives.  Guided by our Christian focus, we will give our children wings to soar.

Christian Ethos

Mayfield CE Primary School has a strong, caring Christian ethos and we are proud of the welcome that we give to all of our families and visitors to the school.  We nurture children’s moral and spiritual development, promote the development of positive relationships and foster respect and co-operation.  This is reflected in the following comments made in our most recent OFSTED (September 2019) and SIAMS (June 2017) reports:

OFSTED – September 2019

  • Pupils and staff offer a very warm welcome.
  • Pupils are friendly and happy.  Those who are new to the school make friends and settle in quickly.
  • The school is a kind, nurturing and safe space.
  • Adults in the setting are patient and supportive.
  • Leaders fully include all pupils in all aspects of school life, including pupils with SEND and those who are disadvantaged.
  • Pupils feel supported by the adults in school, and they know that there is always someone there to listen to them if they have any worries.

SIAMS - June 2017

  • Christian values at Mayfield Church of England Primary School are clearly defined and effectively promoted so as to make a significant impact on the personal development of all pupils.

  • The strong leadership team have established a firm Christian foundation which leads to a positive and happy atmosphere and supports pupils in their learning well.

  • The worship programme and RE play an important role in school life.

  • The strong and supportive links with the parish church and other local churches express well both the church’s and the school’s Christian mission of service to the community.

Our link with local churches and the local community is strong and this supports the children in feeling a sense of purpose and belonging within the school, village and beyond.

Christian Values

Our Christian ethos is supported by our four core behaviours: respect, responsibility, compassion and perseverance as well as ‘Values for Life’ which sit alongside British Values to support the development of well-rounded children prepared of be responsible citizens and make a positive contribution to life in modern Britain.  We consider a different Christian Value each term; children focus on the Value through homework, classroom display and collective worship and are given recognition for recognising or demonstrating the value in everyday life.
