Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE)
Our Curriculum Intent
Our RSHE curriculum aims to support children in building positive relationships with adults, children, friends and family. In line with our Christian values, we aim to support children in establishing self-confidence, responsibility and perseverance as well as a respect and compassion towards others. Our curriculum allows children to understand their own and others emotions and develop compassion towards one another. We aim to build resilient children who are able to overcome difficulties with the support of adults and other children. Our curriculum ensures that children are able to experience a wide range of cultures and gain understanding and acceptance of differences within our school and wider community. We aim to establish firm foundations for pupils to confidently make a positive contribution to society. Our curriculum focuses on learning about ourselves, our community and building positive relationships with those around us. We intend to make our pupils feel safe and happy in the school environment, local community and in the wider world.

The JIGSAW Charter
At the start of each year the children will discuss the JIGSAW Charter and agree their own Charter in order to create a safe space to discuss topic and ideas in the classroom.
The JIGSAW Characters
As part of our JIGSAW Scheme each class has a JIGSAW Character. These characters are designed to guide children through a range of topics as well as create scenarios to get the children thinking!

Our Curriculum Impact
The implementation of the curriculum ensures that when children leave Mayfield CE Primary they are confident, compassionate and resilient children. They will have developed understanding of the differences in the world around them and be able to accept the people and communities they meet in their future endeavours. They will leave with skills to overcome challenges, set goals for the future and persevere in whichever path they choose next.
We will regularly review and evaluate our RSHE curriculum to ensure that it meets the needs of all the children in our school.
